Lead ACP

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to provide clinical leadership across our specialist palliative care services. This is a senior role for a highly skilled clinician with strong leadership and line management experience, working autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team.

You will provide expert clinical advice and support to hospice, hospital and community teams, supporting babies, children and young people with life‑limiting and life‑threatening conditions, and their families. You will also support, mentor and develop ACPs, trainee ACPs, nurses and members of the wider care team, acting as a role model in advanced clinical practice and leadership.

Rainbows Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative and end‑of‑life care to over 750 babies, children and young people, and support to around 3,000 family members across the East Midlands. We are committed to delivering compassionate, high‑quality, needs‑led care wherever families need us.

Role details

  • Hospice‑based with regular travel across the East Midlands
  • Working across 7 days (typically 08:00–18:00)
  • On‑call commitment required

Key responsibilities

  • Deputise for the Head of Specialist Palliative Care / Nurse Consultant
  • Provide autonomous advanced clinical care within scope of practice
  • Deliver expert clinical advice, treatment and symptom management
  • Support hospice, hospital and community teams
  • Mentor and support ACPs, nurses and trainees
  • Contribute to education programmes for professionals and families
  • Build effective partnerships across regional palliative care networks
  • Support service development, outreach and clinical leadership across the East Midlands

Essential requirements

  • Current NMC registration
  • Registered Advanced Clinical Practitioner (MSc or equivalent)
  • Non‑medical prescriber
  • Significant post‑registration palliative care experience
  • Experience working autonomously with complex clinical cases
  • Line management and clinical leadership experience
  • Teaching, supervision and mentorship experience
  • Strong communication, organisational and partnership‑working skills
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, clinical governance and multi‑agency working
  • Experience supporting children with complex or technology‑dependent needs
