Help families find meaning and connection when it matters most.

Do you want to develop and lead a compassionate and inclusive spiritual care service that supports children, young people and families facing some of life's most difficult challenges?

At Rainbows Children's Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care and end-of-life support to more than 750 babies, children and young people living with life threatening and life-shortening across the East Midlands. Simply put, we're here to brighten short lives and support every family, wherever they are.

We're looking for an experienced and compassionate Spiritual Services Lead to champion and develop our spiritual care offer, ensuring children, young people, families, volunteers and colleagues receive inclusive, meaningful and person-centred support that respects all faiths, beliefs, cultures and identities.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead spiritual care within a renowned children's hospice. You will provide expert leadership and guidance, ensuring that spiritual, emotional, cultural and religious support is accessible both within the hospice and through our community outreach services.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you'll support children and families through times of uncertainty, grief, end of life and bereavement, helping them find meaning, comfort and connection in ways that are important to them.

You'll also play an important role in supporting staff wellbeing through reflective practice and wellbeing-focused approaches, whilst contributing actively to our Values, Culture and Inclusion Group.

Key Responsibilities

As Spiritual Services Lead, you will:

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for the development of spiritual care across Rainbows.
  • Act as an expert advisor and resource for staff, volunteers, children, young people and families.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local faith leaders, belief communities and cultural groups across the East Midlands.
  • Promote a holistic approach to care, ensuring spiritual needs are recognised and integrated into multidisciplinary practice.
  • Lead and support bereavement events, memorial services and family remembrance activities.
  • Recruit, develop and supervise a team of spiritual care volunteers.
  • Deliver training, advice and support to clinical and care teams, embedding principles of hope, meaning, belonging and personal spirituality into care.
  • Support families at hospice, hospital or home, providing compassionate listening and specialist spiritual care throughout their journey.
  • Work collaboratively with our Cultural Community Worker to ensure spiritual and cultural needs are understood and met.

About You

We're seeking someone who is passionate about supporting people from all backgrounds and beliefs and who can demonstrate:

Essential Experience and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of a wide range of religions, faiths, beliefs and cultural practices, gained through a relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience providing spiritual support to individuals experiencing illness, loss, grief or bereavement.
